Symposium: Identity and civic integration (15 juni)
(26 mei 2010)After the success of the ISW conference “Towards new Identities” (June 4th 2009) the institute for Integration and Social Efficacy will once again organise a symposium on June 15th 2010. This year the symposium will be about identity and civic integration.
In the morning three scientific experts – Marilynn Brewer, Thomas Diprete and Roland Pierik – will discuss the themes integration and identity, segregation and social networks and (international) policy towards integration, shedding light on the conference theme from the perspectives of social psychology, sociology and philosophy, respectively. Researchers from the University of Groningen will discuss each lecture and its links to their own work on integration.
The afternoon is devoted to policy makers’ view on integration. Ahmed Marcouch (member of the Amsterdam city council and chairman of executive board of the PvdA), Marilyn Haimé (director of Housing Communities and Integration, Ministery of VROM) and Nora Asrami (Coordinator Contactorgaan Moslims en Overheid) will present their visions on the central themes of the day. A panel, consisting of Karen van Oudenhoven-van der Zee, Frank Hindriks, Andreas Flache, Roel Bosker and Roland Pierik, will react to each lecture. The discussions will be chaired by Jacques Wallage.
